The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar app for Android and iOS, designed to simplify digital ID management and enhance user privacy. The app lets users carry their Aadhaar digitally, manage multiple family profiles, and control which details are shared during verification.
Unlike the older mAadhaar app, which remains useful for downloading e-Aadhaar PDFs, ordering PVC cards, generating Virtual IDs, and updating contact information, the new app focuses on privacy, multi-profile management, and offline access.
Users can manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, as long as all profiles share the same registered mobile number. The app offers biometric security using fingerprint or face recognition. It allows selective sharing, so users can reveal only name and photo while keeping sensitive details private. QR code verification enables quick identity checks at banks, government offices, and service centres. Users can also access their Aadhaar details offline after initial setup, and a usage history log shows when and where Aadhaar has been used.
Download the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, verify via OTP, complete face authentication, and set a six-digit PIN.
UIDAI says the app is designed to provide faster, secure, and privacy-conscious Aadhaar access. It also simplifies family management by allowing multiple profiles on one device. With digital verification increasingly required in banking, government, and services, the new app promises convenience, security, and control for Indian citizens.
