A horrific accident shook Tamil Nadu on November 30 when two state-run buses collided near Sivaganga, leaving 11 people dead and more than 50 injured. The crash occurred around 5 pm near Vivekananda Polytechnic College, on a highway connecting Karaikudi and Devakottai.
The collision was sudden and devastating. Eight passengers died on the spot, including a driver, while three more succumbed to their injuries later at hospitals. Shockingly, nine of the victims were women. Many of the injured were rushed to hospitals in Karaikudi, Thirupattur, and Sivaganga, some in critical condition.
Initial reports suggest that the accident may have happened when one bus swerved abruptly, possibly trying to avoid a pedestrian, leading to the head-on crash.
Rescue teams, including police and fire personnel, acted swiftly to pull passengers from the wreckage. The state government announced compensation for victims’ familie, ₹3 lakh for each deceased, ₹1 lakh for seriously injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.
