US ‘Tech Force’ hires AI experts

Initiative offers high-paying roles for tech professionals to advance AI in public sector

The US government has unveiled a new initiative called the Tech Force, aiming to strengthen federal technology and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Under this program, approximately 1,000 technology specialists will be hired for two-year stints across various federal agencies.

Managed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the initiative seeks professionals with expertise in AI, software development, data modernization, and digital services. Participants will earn between $150,000 and $200,000 per year, plus standard benefits. Many may also transition to private-sector opportunities after completing their government term.

The program is supported by several major tech companies, including Apple, Amazon Web Services, Google Public Sector, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, and Meta. These partners will contribute through mentorship, training, and temporary employee placements, helping participants gain cutting-edge skills while improving federal technology systems.

Officials emphasize that the Tech Force is non-partisan and designed to modernize government operations, improve citizen services, and enhance the country’s global technology competitiveness. By bringing private-sector expertise into government projects, the initiative aims to accelerate innovation, boost efficiency, and expand AI capabilities across federal agencies.

The Tech Force reflects a broader push by the administration to centralize federal technology efforts and strengthen the US’s position in AI and emerging technologies. Experts believe the program could reshape how government agencies function, making them more agile, tech-savvy, and responsive to the needs of the public.
